Siblings Kenny Chan and Susan Woo ran Le Yen after growing up in their family restaurant. Le Yen has made Bixby Knolls it's home for over four decades and both Chan and Woo felt satisfied to close its doors after 45 years of service to the community. As of today, patrons are still enjoying last minute meals at Le Yen.
Ernst & Haas is new to this part of Bixby Knolls but we immediately noticed the warmth in both Woo and Chan's spirit. They are both so friendly and were inquisitive about this new business with blue Chase shirts a few doors down.
One day Glenda and I walked into Le Yen with great hopes of having lunch. Their ATM machine was down so we were unable to dine in. However, Chan and Woo wanted to ensure that our experience was not dampened so they offered a discount to our entire office; 45 years of wisdom!
Le Yen is known for its traditional Cantonese recipes that Woo told the Signal Hill Tribune are no longer appreciated by this generation. Woo believes that Chinese fast food has crippled true Chinese cuisine. Yet many diners of the restaurant enjoy Le Yen for having Chinese recipes from the 1940's.
